Kedah footballers grilled by MACC for alleged match-fixing

Several Kedah football players have been summoned by the MACC recently to give their statements over alleged match-fixing during the Malaysia Cup finals between Kedah and JDT at Shah Alam Stadium on Nov 4.

Without divulging further details, Kedah Football Association (KFA) president Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said he welcomed the action taken by the commission to facilitate investigation into the issue.

“I was informed that MACC had summoned several players but I am not aware of what they were being questioned for...I consider it a normal thing and they (MACC) has the right to call them for an investigation.

“We in KFA did not make the allegations, the netizens did but how many people have been called up I don’t have the information,” he told reporters after the Kedah MB Chillex event with social media partners and social media followers at the menteri besar’s residence in Seri Mentaloon, Alor Setar today.

Previously claims that seven players of the Kedah squad had been bribed RM200,000 per person during the game went viral on social media.

Hence Ahmad Bashah, who is also Kedah menteri besar, hoped that the issue which went viral on social media could be resolved as soon as possible to safeguard the image of the association and rectify the negative perception of  football fans and supporters in the state.

He also urged any players with evidence of the alleged bribery to lodge a report with MACC.
