CIMB Group Holdings Bhd said the investigation on the loss of magnetic tapes containing backup customer data is still ongoing.

“It is premature at this stage for the bank to make further statements on the matter.

“We are, however, confident that heightened security measures and strengthened internal processes will maintain the safety of our customers' transactions,” it said in a statement in response to inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun who commented on Thursday that the loss was due to negligence on the part of the bank’s staff.

The IGP also said there was no element of sabotage.

“We would also like to reiterate that customers' authentication data such as personal identification numbers, passwords or credit card verification value numbers are also safe,” said CIMB Group.

At 10.10am, CIMB shares were eight sen better at RM6.
