Six Chinese citizens claimed trial today at the Magistrate's Court in Kuala Lumpur to rioting against four police officers in the Bukit Bintang area last Saturday.

The accused are six construction workers, comprising five men and one woman: Zhao Jianzhong, 51, Cao Yong Jun, 45, Wu Yinhua, 26, Zhu Suhong, 46, Zhang Jinping, 48, and Guo Jianhui, 51.

They were jointly charged under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting against four police officers from the Tun HS Lee police station and causing injury to them. 

The incident occurred at a house on Jalan Abraham off Jalan Imbi at about 11.36pm on Nov 11.

The accused pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to them by a Mandarin interpreter.

The six were represented by lawyer Dexter Chua, who requested bail for all of them.

However, magistrate Siti Radziah Kamarudin granted a bail of RM 8,000 with two sureties to all six accused. 

If found guilty, the six stand to face a maximum jail term of five years, or fine, or both.

Previously, Dang Wangi district police chief Shaharudin Abdullah had said that police had to fire four warning shots when they raided the premises where the workers were allegedly gambling.

According to Shaharudin, an officer conducting checks in front of the Jalan Abraham house had been “attacked by a group of 20 to 30 people who were believed to be citizens of China”.

"The situation became out of control and the officer released four warning shots in self-defence," the Dang Wangi OCPD had said.

Following the incident, Persatuan Patriot Kebangsaan called for the immediate deportation of the group of Chinese nationals involved.
