Cops to monitor Parliament fuel protest, say no marching allowed

Police will monitor Pakatan Harapan’s protest against the high fuel prices outside the Parliament, and will stop the protesters if they march, Dang Wangi police chief Shaharudin Abdullah said.

“If they march, we will stop them. If they assemble peacefully, we will monitor them,” Shaharudin (photo) said when contacted today, adding that 10 police officers would be stationed at the protest venue.

The protest, planned to last 42 hours, is scheduled to begin at 1am tomorrow and end at 6pm on Wednesday.

Protesters who disobey police orders would be investigated under the Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA) 2012, he added, but declined to reveal if arrests would be made.
