Yoursay: So MCA not in gov’t when Umno opposed UEC?

YOURSAY | ‘Is MCA's modus operandi to hang around until a leader who agrees with UEC?’

Dr M, Muhyiddin and Anwar were obstacles to UEC, MCA tells DAP

Anonymous #44199885: So, MCA is asking for public support not on the basis of their successes but because certain former ruling party members who are now aligned with the opposition are the prime reason for the Unified Examination Certificate or UEC (a standardised test for Chinese independent high school students) not being recognised by the government.

These former members are from Umno, not MCA. What did MCA previously do when Umno objected to recognition of the UEC? Did MCA voice its displeasure vociferously?

I can’t recall MCA doing anything other than falling in line with Umno’s opinion at that time. The point here seems to be just to try and score points by pointing to the fact that certain members of the opposition leadership were the ones who caused the failure of UEC recognition while in BN.

This does MCA no credit, as in the final analysis MCA was, and still is, and will be the same in the future - it simply cannot be counted on to deliver positively for the nation.

They have always been subservient to Umno and this habit of pointing the finger at the opposition only highlights that MCA's strength lies not in themselves but merely in pointing out the faults (real or perceived) in others.

Existential Turd: Former Umno leaders Dr Mahathir, Muhyiddin Yassin and Anwar Ibrahim were obstacles to UEC, MCA tells DAP. Well, MCA was a partner in BN, so MCA approved of the obstacles.

Anonymous#26191220: The shameful history of MCA in failing to defend the rights of vernacular education, a right enshrined in the Federal Constitution, is legendary. Instead of admitting to its past failure and ineptitude, it now wants to demonise past Umno politicians and luminaries.

One would recall how in the past Mahathir was dutifully "worshipped" as the greatest protector of Chinese education by MCA. This is the shameless, servile and cowardly ('kick in the guts") yellow belly politics of MCA.

Norman Fernandez: Let the facts show the following: Firstly, it was Anwar who precipitated the Operasi Lalang crisis when he decided to send non-Chinese speaking teachers to take up positions in Chinese schools.

Secondly, Mahathir never permitted UEC recognition. Third, Muhyiddin was never in agreement to recognise the UEC.

However, it was Najib that took away the ministerial power to convert Chinese schools into national schools. So, maybe Najib has done far better for Chinese schools.

Anonymous 2465861491622056: The question is whether MCA, which is a part of the government, can get Umno to agree to recognise the UEC.

The answer is ‘no’ as MCA has zero power and they are merely in the government so that their leaders can enjoy government positions.

Gaji Buta: Whatever the case, all these leaders made the decision as Umno/BN, ie, MCA's partner/boss.

So MCA's modus operandi is to hang around until there comes a leader who agrees with UEC, without MCA having to actually put their foot down or fight for it?

Hasn't Najib been in power for about eight years now? Is the UEC approved already? Not that I support UEC.

Francis_14a3: Thank you for clarifying, MCA. Now that the three men are no longer in the government, go ahead and get UEC recognised tomorrow.

But that tomorrow will never come if Malaysia is still under Umno/BN who sees MCA as a mosquito party.

Ghostwhowalks: MCA, you were a party to the past administration of those three men mentioned but you did nothing and happily went round the mulberry tree.

Now all of a sudden you woke up and start your barking up that tree. Isn't that pathetic?

Anonymous 2251681440225523: MCA publicity spokesperson Ti Lian Ker, Malaysians know much about the sitting prime minister. “He is willing to reconsider” - when? Until the next general elections (GE14). And after that, it will be put in cold storage.

Only when an election is near, would he throw some bones for MCA whereas the flesh had already been given to Umno. You think he will antagonise Umno when his political survival is in the hands of the Malay voters?

Goodies are reserved for them. Only the leftovers are given to you.

Anonyxyz: Indeed, MCA was and still is a partner of BN when all these three leaders ruled Umno. What has MCA done? Not even a whimper. Why is UEC suddenly such a hot button topic now?

Remember Merdeka University and why it was not formed. MCA does not have that basic expectation to support the motion in Parliament.

This is just like Umno telling US President Donald Trump we will buy 25 planes; MCA is now telling the Chinese about 10 more Chinese schools and UEC. Both competing for the best comedy script?

Mechi: BN and Umno are having gigantic problems before GE14. Dr M's Bersatu is making strong inroads and Shafie Apdal is rocking Sabah with Warisan, to the chagrin of a worried Najib.

Hence, such UEC news, orchestrated by and paid for by Umno is to take away the heat from BN’s problems especially related to 1MDB, corruption, Felda, GST, petrol price increases and cost of living issues.

Anonymous #113: Who is DAP MP Teo Nie Cheng to speak on behalf of Mahathir or Muhyiddin? Does DAP dare to force Mahathir to speak in favour of UEC now?

The Analyser: MCA is doing its best to sow discord amongst the component parties of Pakatan Harapan.

But it beats me why DAP is so scathing about MCA leaders. Do you realise that they are demonstrating to you what your role will be under another a Mahathir government?

It is you who will be the tame Chinese under the heavy hand of Mahathir, because you have already proven you are as ineffectual as MCA.

Single Malt: Pointing fingers and blaming one another has been our political pastime. Why not think about the future?

Anonymous 428911434555133: Hooray, now that those people who were obstacles to UEC are no longer in power, it means that MCA will guarantee that the government will approve the UEC.

Quigonbond: All of this is old news. The most important thing is to examine UEC qualifications globally. Are they recognised? If yes, what's stopping a technocratic and progressive government from recognising this?

So far, UEC has not been recognised because that would make the selection process for university entrance based on race and connection more difficult.
