Cempaka assemblyperson Iskandar Abdul Samad has questioned the purported presence of Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Mohd Yunos at a school function in his constituency this morning.

He said parents of the school’s pupils should oppose Jamal’s visit because he is a controversial figure who does not set a good example for the students.

“He was previously involved in violence such as breaking bottles in a public place namely in front of the Selangor state secretariat.

“He also held demonstrations by bringing a hearse and beds outside the building, preventing members of the public from doing business with the government departments there.

“Apart from that, he even held a demonstration there covered only with a towel.

“Thus, parents should oppose Jamal’s presence at the school,” said Iskandar  (photo) in a statement today.

Malaysiakini has been unable to contact the school due to the ongoing school holidays. The portal has also contacted Jamal for a response.

According to Iskandar, Jamal was present to officiate a circumcision ceremony at the school, and provided photos of posters promoting the event. The event was purportedly organised by the Pandan Umno Youth Wing.

Meanwhile, Iskandar, who is also PAS vice-president, accused the government of holding double standards by allowing Umno to hold events at schools while prohibiting the federal opposition from doing the same.

“Previously we have received reports that a teacher had been issued a show-cause letter for supposedly bringing a state government official to a school.

“The ministry and the departments involved need to be fair. If Umno is to be allowed to host events in national schools, then other parties such as PAS and PKR should also be allowed.

“Such favouritism and double standards should not be held by the ministry and the departments responsible for the generation that is the hope of the nation's future,” he said.
