A jet, a yacht, money - Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said he had it all in the 80s and 90s.

But that all changed when he answered a calling from Umno in 1998, an event which he considered divine intervention.

"Before, my life was berfoya-foya (having luxurious fun) here and there. I had my own private jet, a yacht, I had it all. Where do I want to eat? Hong Kong? Singapore?

"But Allah loved me. At the end of 1998, I remember being called to serve as Umno's working secretary. I told my president (Dr Mahathir Mohamad), that I would serve for six months and then I wanted to return to the corporate world.
