'Extremist' Jamal not fit to challenge Azmin, says MB's aide

Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos has been deemed as unqualified to contest in the state seat of Bukit Antarabangsa, in which Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali is the assemblyperson.

Sinar Harian quoted Azmin's political secretary Shuhaimi Shafiei as saying that Jamal, in fact, is not worthy to contest in any area where the people are 'moderate' thinkers.

"Several criteria have to be fulfilled by a candidate wanting to gun for the state seat. The candidate must be from a professional background, and able to administer maturely as the constituents (in Bukit Antarabangsa) are, generally, highly educated.

"The candidate must also be able to respect differences of opinion and handle any issue prudently, and not (be) driven by emotion," Shuhaimi was quoted saying.

He was responding to Jamal's statement yesterday that he is gunning to challenge Azmin (photo) in Bukit Antarabangsa, as he claimed the constituents were tired of Azmin not doing anything for them.

Shuhaimi, who is also the Sri Muda assemblyperson, said he is confident that even Umno's top honchos doubted Jamal's leadership capabilities.

"Jamal is an extremist who does not fit anywhere in Selangor. However, it is his right to contest wherever he likes.

"BN could lose its deposit if a man like him is fielded as a candidate," Shuhaimi was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, Selangor Umno chairperson Noh Omar, who is aware of Jamal's intention, vouched for the latter.

"Jamal has helped the people in Selangor in various issues and it is in this capacity that he has the credibility to challenge Azmin in Bukit Antarabangsa.

"This (the help) includes selling fresh fish for cheap to the people," Noh was quoted saying.
