Dewan Rakyat adjourns sine die, 13 bills passed

The Dewan Rakyat adjourned sine die today after sitting for 25 days since Oct 23.

Many expect that this sitting will be the last before Parliament is dissolved to pave the way for the 14th general election which must be held by August next year.

This sitting saw 13 bills passed.

Among the keys bills passed were the Supply Bill 2018 and the Dangerous Drugs (Amendment) Bill 2017 as well as the Employment Insurance System Bill 2017 that allows for the establishment of an employment insurance system managed by Sosco to provide benefits and re-employment placement programmes for insured persons in the event of loss of employment.

Other passed bills were the Finance (No. 2) Bill 2017, Income Tax (Amendment) Bill 2017, Labuan Business Activity Tax (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2017 and the Private Aged Healthcare Facilities and Services Bill 2017.

Also the Care Centres (Amendment) Bill 2017, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (Amendment) Bill 2017, Tourism Industry (Amendment) Bill 2017, and the Arbitration (Amendment) Bill 2017.

The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Amendment) Bill 2017 was also passed to enable the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) to impose financial penalties and to collect charges on passengers at airports for the regulatory services.

Meanwhile, the approval of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) (Amendment) Bill 2017, among others allows enlisting of the Malaysian maritime volunteers to enable rapid action in the event of a disaster.
