Azmin: Heed sultan’s call to safeguard racial harmony

Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali has advised all quarters to heed the call by the sultan of Selangor in warning politicians not to capitalise on sensitive topics such as race and religion to fish for votes.

He said the call by Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah was a timely reminder to politicians that they should maintain harmony in Malaysia’s multicultural and multi-religious society.

Mohamed Azmin was speaking to reporters after attending the King's Scout Award certificates and badges presentation ceremony here today. Some 250 school students aged 17 years from various districts in Selangor received the King's Scout certificate and badge from the Selangor Sultan.

Azmin was responding to the front page exclusive report of The Star daily today quoting Sultan Sharafuddin as saying that the deliberate use of sensitive issues to fish for votes in the run up to the 14th General Election will destroy the country.

The ruler was reported to have said that he did not wish to see politicians playing with matters of race, religion and other sensitive issues for political gain.
