The MACC today remanded a senior police officer with the rank of assistant commissioner of police (ACP) and two women in regard to a corruption case.

According to Bernama, the suspect, who is a former police chief, and the two women, believed to be related to him, were remanded for five days, until next Tuesday, by a magistrate's court in Ipoh.

The remand order was issued by assistant registrar Puteri Nordina Kamalaudin.

The trio was brought to the court complex about 10.45am, in handcuffs and clad in orange MACC lock-up clothes.

Meanwhile, Berita Harian Online reported that the officer and his wife were probed for alleged misconduct and purported "crimes", including receiving bribes from gambling syndicates and running prostitution joints.

An investigation was initiated against the officer after a netizen penned an open letter about the officer to former inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar, on the latter's Facebook page, which then went viral.

Perak police chief Hasnan Hassan has also previously confirmed receiving a report on the matter.
