An appeal against the disciplinary action taken for political corruption involving Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, since suspended as Umno vice-president, may be heard by the party's appeals panel on Oct 11.

National news agency Bernama quoted party secretary-general Mohd Radzi Sheikh Ahmad as saying that the matter will be discussed if the panel forwards its decision before the meeting.

"Hopefully, we will obtain the decision before that date (Oct 11)," he reportedly told Bernama.

Mohd Isa remains as the Federal Territories Minister.

Media reports earlier indicated that the appeals by Mohd Isa which he had submitted on July 6 and that of eight other members would be discussed at the Aug 25 supreme council meeting but that didn't happen.

Mohd Radzi was quoted as saying that the appeals panel was considering the appeals thoroughly and may take some time to reach a decision.

"I do not know. I was not informed," he said when asked if the panel was ready to forward its decision to the Umno supreme council.

SC has last say

Based on procedures, the appeals panel will forward its deliberations to the party's management committee before presenting it to the supreme council for a final decision.

On June 27, Mohd Isa was suspended for six years or the equivalent of two party terms for political corruption found to have been committed during last year's Umno elections.

He subsequently won one of the three vice-presidencies with the highest number of votes.

Yesterday, Parliament public relations officer Ahmad Asri Zakaria said Mohd Isa's position in the Dewan Rakyat remains the same.
