Two people were killed and three others injured in two stabbing incidents on Thursday in Maastricht city, in the southern Dutch province of Limburg, Xinhua News Agency reported the police as saying early today.

So far the police have arrested one suspect. "Investigation showed that there is no reason to believe the attacks had a terrorist motive," the police said in a statement.

The first stabbing incident took place at around 9 pm local time at the Botsaart street in the Malpertuis district, during which one man died.

The second stabbing occurred 10 minutes later a few hundred metres away at the Joseph Postmes street in the Caberg district, during which one woman died and two others injured.

The third injured person was found at a mosque.
