Editor's Note: Police have clarified that the incident where a woman was molested on the LRT escalator was a separate case.
A man alleged to have molested an LRT passenger on Thursday is still on the loose, police confirmed today.
"The suspect has yet to be arrested. CCTV footage from Prasarana has been obtained," Dang Wangi district police chief Shaharudin Abdullah told the media over WhatsApp.
The case has been referred to the Kuala Lumpur police's D11 (sexual crimes) unit.
The incident came to light on Friday, when Twitter user Dhabitah Zainal posted that her friend had been assaulted while the LRT was en route to Masjid Jamek from Pasar Seni.
"A man pulled his penis out of his pants and rubbed it against her bum. She screamed for help. Bystanders laughed," Dhabitah tweeted.
The post went viral, and RapidKL in its initial response said the suspect had been arrested and handed over to the police.
However, it is understood that the person arrested was a different man, who was arrested for a separate incident of molestation on the LRT line.
RapidKL said it is conducting its own thorough investigation on the matter.
Police said the case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force to a person with intent to outrage modesty.
Those convicted can be jailed for up to ten years, fined, or whipped.
Police said a separate incident involved a victim being molested while on the escalator at the Masjid Jamek LRT station.
