Analyst finds B40 in Kelantan still reliant on BR1M

The 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) is an essential requirement to ease the financial burden of those in the B40 category in Kelantan, said director of the Institute for Poverty Research and Management (InsPek), Universiti Malaysia Kelantan assistant professor Wan Ahmad Amir Zal Wan Ismail.

He said a survey conducted by InsPek on Poverty Mapping in Kelantan, which involved 3,000 respondents in 10 districts in the state this year, found that many poor people used the BR1M money to buy basic necessities, especially food.

“From the survey, we found that there are poor respondents who could not afford to buy food and they used BR1M to get food,” he told reporters at the InsPeK Roundtable Discussion Programme Series 2 here today.

The event was launched by Deputy vice-chancellor (academic and international) Mohd Hassan Mohd Osman.
