PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang was a no-show at the "Save Jerusalem" rally in Putrajaya today, despite his image being displayed prominently beside that of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's on the main stage backdrop.

Instead, Hadi was in his constituency Marang, Terengganu, delivering a sermon on Jerusalem during Friday prayers.

PAS was represented at the rally by Hadi's son and PAS Youth chief, Khalil Abdul Hadi.

When met by reporters after the rally, Khalil did not explain why Hadi was not in Putrajaya.

"InsyaAllah, he will attend future programmes, I believe there will be more in the future," Khalil said when asked if Hadi was absent due to an illness.

"He (Hadi) has always stood by Palestine. This is not his first time trying to unite Malaysians and the government on Palestine," Khalil added.

In his sermon at the Rusila mosque in Marang, Hadi stressed that Jerusalem belonged to all Muslims, and not just Palestinians, Malaysians or others.

"Muslims around the world, especially those in neighbouring countries, who let down Palestine, will be disappointed in this world and the hereafter," he added.

Today's rally in Putrajaya, featuring Najib, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and other Umno figures, was in protest of US President Donald Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Previously, Umno Youth and Pakatan Harapan had staged similar protests outside the US Embassy.

Hadi and Najib last shared a stage together in Dec 2016, to protest against the killing of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.
