The International School of Kuala Lumpur in Ampang was today faced with its sixth bomb threat in the past year, which saw hundreds of students being evacuated.

Ampang Jaya district police chief Azri Ahmad, when contacted, said the school has received at least six similar threats over the past one and half years.

At about 8.25am, he said school authorities received a call from a man with a 'middle eastern accent' claiming that he has placed a bomb in the premises.

The man also demanded that students be evacuated. The school has about 1,200 students from 50 countries.

Following this, the police were notified and a team was immediately dispatched to the scene.

According to Azri, the man called again from a different location and asked why the students had not been evacuated.

The students were subsequently evacuated for safety reasons and a bomb squad swept the premises. No explosive devices were found.

Azri also warned pranksters not to indulge in such activities as they could face stern action if caught.

Text message

According to an AP report earlier, the students were taken to a nearby private club, and parents were told to take them back home as classes were suspended for the day.

"Credible bomb threat to Ampang campus. Students evacuated to KDE (Kelab Darul Ehsan) at 9.30am. Please pick up from there."

According to the report, this was a text message sent by the school to parents on their mobile phones.

The major nationalities at the school are American, South Korean, Japanese, Malaysian, Australian and Indian.

School officials could not be reached for comment.
