Umno deputy president Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said today that no action has been taken yet over the allegation that party secretary-general Khalil Yaakob had abused his power during the latter's tenure as the Mentri Besar of Pahang.

Asked if a disciplinary committee meeting had been convened regarding the matter, Abdullah, who heads the committee, simply replied "no".

Pahang state assembly representative Fauzi Abdul Rahman lodged a police report in March claiming that Khalil, who is now information minister, had given out logging concessions without following the regulations laid out by the National Forestry Policy.

Though the report was then referred to the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA), the Umno supreme council had also decided to establish an ad-hoc committee to investigate Fuzi's allegations.

However, the progress of both investigations remains unknown.

On disciplinary issues, Abdullah said a secretariat would be formed to review decisions and the findings would later be brought up to the supreme council.

"Complaints can be made until a month after the divisional meetings. That's the cut-off point. Anything beyond that will not be entertained, " he said at a press conference after the party's supreme council meeting at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) in Kuala Lumpur.

'Very careful'

At the same conference, Abdullah, who is also the home affairs minister, was asked to comment on the Immigration Department's decision to bar an Internal Security Act (ISA) detainee's fiancee from entering the country.

"I don't wish to comment because I have to be very careful when it comes to issues of the ISA. I don't want to create any confusion," he said.

On July 20, Mabel Au arrived in Kuala Lumpur from Thailand to visit her fianc Tian Chua who is serving a two-year detention at the Kamunting Detention Centre in Perak.

However, Au was barred by an Immigration officer from entering Malaysia and told to leave. She was placed in a lock-up until her departure on a noon flight to Hong Kong the next day.

Chua, the vice-president of opposition party Keadilan, was among 10 people detained under the ISA in April. Four were released while the rest were sent to Kamunting.

Meanwhile, an official barred a RadiqRadio.com journalist from the press conference for not possessing a press tag issued by the information ministry.
