Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan today confirmed that he was banned for life from playing football by the state football association (PBNS) following a 'red card' incident over 40 years ago.

Sinar Harian Online quoted Mohamad saying that although he is the president of PBNS now, he does not want the ban lifted.

"There was a motion from PBNS committee members several years ago to get the ban lifted but I said there was no need to do so as what I did back then was wrong and I deserved to be thrown off the pitch," he was quoted AS telling a press conference after chairing an exco meeting in Seremban.

Mohamad recalled that the incident happened during a final match of a local tournament involving his team, the NS Malays and their opponents, the NS Indians. The match was played at the Seremban Municipal Council field in 1977.

"In that match, I was playing defence and was tasked to 'mark' (former) national player G Torairaju, who was playing extremely well and was fast.

"I was shown the yellow card (after roughing up Torairaju) but I protested by wildly kicking the ball which hit the referee.

"This resulted in a red card which I then seized from the referee's hand and threw away so hard that it got stuck in a tree.

"That was my last official match and after that day, I was banned from playing football for life," he said.

Mohamad was responding to a Facebook post dubbed 'the red card of Tok Mat' - a moniker by which Mohamad is known as - which is currently going viral
