Pahang floods: Number of victims rises to 8,800

The floods in Pahang have worsened, sending 8,800 people to evacuation centres as of 2pm, up from 7,309 this morning.

They are being housed at 50 relief centres, according to the InfoBanjir portal of the Social Welfare Department.

It said the district of Kuantan had the highest number of evacuees at 7,162 accommodated at 28 relief centres, higher than the 5,663 this morning.

The distribution of evacuees is as follows: Seri Damai community hall (156); Kemunting Drainage and Irrigation Department hall (108); Kampung Paya Bungor community hall (24); SK Fakeh Abdul Samad (267); SMK Gudang Rasau (288); SMK Sungai Lembing (4).

SK Kampung Padang (73); SMK Pandan (921); Kampung Pahang community hall (69); Jaya Gading community hall (199); Kampung Tiram community hall (243); SMK Paya Besar (641); SRJK (C) Chung Ching (540); SMK Tg Panglima Perang Tg Muhammad (26); SK Kempadang (67).

Wisma Belia (635); Pasir Kemudi community hall (2); Sekolah Menengah Sains Sultan Ahmad Shah (592); Panching multipurpose hall (17); Alor Akar police quarters (35); Kampung Sungai Soi community hall (29).

Melati Penjara Penor hall (31); SMK Tanah Putih (862); Indera Mahkota sports hall (659); Integrated fully residential school in Kuantan (89); Sekolah Kebangsaan Beserah (2); Mara Higher Skills College (KKTM) (551) and SK Sungai Ular (31).

In this regard, the number of flood victims evacuated in Rompin increased with 714 people at 10 relief centres compared to 665 this morning.

They were moved to Telok Gading community hall (15), Kampung Setajam relief centre (178), Kampung Pianggu purpose hall  (72), SMK Pontian Jaya (82), and Bukit Lepas surau (49).

At Kampung Sepayang hall, there were 64 people, SK Sarang Tiong (161), Kampung Mikang hall (eight), Leban Chondong hall (25) and Rekoh community hall (60).

In Pekan, the number of evacuation centres opened rose to five compared to three earlier at SK Merchong Jaya (511), Kampung Menchupu community hall (25), Sekolah Sinar Mutiara, Sungai Miang (179), SK Temai (five) and Kampung Pulau Manis relief centre (five).

In Jerantut, 35 victims were relocated to three relief centres at Jerantut  Ferry hall (eight), Kampung Besul  community hall (11) and Sekolah Kebangsaan Teh (16) 

In Maran, only two relief centres were in operation at Kampung Bintang surau with five victims and Kampung  Baru Sungai Chedong centre (151).

Meanwhile in Lipis, the number of flood victims were unchanged at Kampung Tanjung Bungor with five people and Lentang community hall (4).
