Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad today rubbished news about Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali contesting in his seat in the 14th general elections.

Calling it an "evil" attempt to pit him against Azmin and their respective parties (Amanah and PKR), Khalid said the matter has already been decided by the Pakatan Harapan election committee.

"I do not know where the rumours came from, we have a committee to decide on seat allocations, and it has decided that the Shah Alam seat is Amanah's.

"Among the principles taken into account by the committee is an incumbent's seat is to be left alone.

"To me, (the news) is untrue and an attempt to pit me against Azmin and our parties, and to tarnish his name as PKR deputy president - it is not possible for him to go against what was decided by the committee and the principles agreed to by the committee.

"As the deputy president of the party, he will set a good example for his party," Khalid told reporters after attending Harapan's presidential council meeting today.

Khalid was responding to an article by Bernama yesterday, which quoted a source saying that Azmin (photo) and PKR Wanita Chief Zuraida Kamaruddin are expected to contest the Shah Alam and Hulu Langat parliamentary seats in the next general election.

Azmin is currently the MP for Gombak and state assemblyperson for Bukit Antarabangsa while Zuraida is Ampang MP.

The source claimed that the names of the duo, along with the names of the seats, have been submitted to the Selangor Harapan election committee.

Commenting further, Khalid said he sees no need for Azmin to move away from the Gombak seat, which he has held for the last two terms.

"The support for him (Azmin) there is quite strong, and he has worked hard for PAS' support, and I am sure PAS members in Gombak will support him if he wants to contest again."

Asked about how he was so sure that Azmin will command PAS members' support, Khalid elaborated this was because Azmin has continued cooperating with the Islamist party in his state administration, despite the party not being part of Harapan.

Khalid concluded by saying that he will "most probably" stay put in Shah Alam.

In GE13, Khalid won the Shah Alam seat for PAS by beating Zulkifli Noordin of BN by 10,939 votes.

Selangor has 56 state seats, of which DAP holds 14, PKR and PAS 13 each, BN 12 and Amanah and independents two each.
