UPP wants Najib, CM to cook up SUPP peace formula

The pro-BN United People’s Party (UPP) said today it is depending on the wisdom of the prime minister and Sarawak chief minister to work out a formula on how it can work with the BN component Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) in the next general election.

UPP president Wong Soon Koh, who is Sarawak second finance minister, said he and other party leaders had spoken to Prime Minister Najib Razak and Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg on the matter.

He said Najib, when officiating at the closing of the SUPP 24th triennial delegates conference in Kuching recently, had requested for the quarrel between SUPP and its splinter UPP to be resolved before the general election.

“We (UPP) are also leaving it to the chief minister to arrange for a meeting of the leaders of the two parties to settle the dispute,” he told reporters after the outgoing consul-general of China in Kuching, Fu Jujin, called on him at his office in Kuching.

Replying to a question, Wong said UPP had submitted its list of candidates for the 14th general election to Najib and Abang Johari but declined to disclose the names of the seats it wanted to contest or the names of the candidates it wanted to field.
