Yoursay: Dr M's task is to win GE, little else matters for now

YOURSAY | 'If he were to apologise for each of his mistakes, it would take him 1,000 years...'

Mahathir must state what he is sorry for

CQ Muar: Suaram adviser Kua Kia Soong, it's about time you leave the dark part of our history behind and move on. This country is undergoing a highly challenging period, and much has to be done.

Thus, we implore you to contribute towards the betterment of the people of this country instead of harping on the bitter past. After all, there were others like you, so be magnanimous and look at the bright side.

Awang Top: Kua, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad has said he was sorry for what he had done in the past that were considered wrong. What else do you want?

We all want a new Malaysia, and do not want the past to cloud the bigger picture.

Straight Talker: I find Kua's thoughts to be counter-productive. Instead of crying over spilt milk, it is better to move forward and give constructive comments to improve the situation we are in now.

Most of us are very familiar with the oratory skills of Dr M. His words often contain implied messages. He has spoken and we have understood. That's what matters.

Cogito Ergo Sum: Kua, you make it as if you are the one who created the word ‘martyr’, and was the first one. Many others have suffered.

I, too, had suffered under the zealous administration of the Mahathir/Anwar Ibrahim team before their fallout.

But we have moved on because we are magnanimous and better human beings. By forgiving and forgetting and looking to future possibilities, we have hope... Pakatan Harapan.

If you want to remain in your self-pity and drag others down with you, that’s your choice.

Anonymous 444981488553970: Let's face reality. Mahathir will one day be accountable to God on Judgement Day. There's no escape from that.

In the meantime, it's not realistic for him to apologise for all those things Kua wants. Doing that would not be possible for him.

Furthermore, doing that would not help solve all the scandals of 1MDB, Felda, etc, that are still ongoing.

We need to stop a person's bleeding first before we can address the other issues. If not, the person dies before we can do anything.

RM2.6 Billion Turkey Haram: Kua, you are not the only one offended by Mahathir. Millions had been offended by his many mistakes.

If he were to apologise for each of his mistakes, it would take him 1,000 years to do so. He does not have that kind of time left.

The more urgent issue right now is not his apologies, but to win the GE. Mahathir still has some of old Malay supporters, which might be the deciding factor between winning and losing.

If Kua is still not satisfied with Mahathir, he can list out all the offences committed by the old man and have the latter apologise to him personally.

Someonroutthere: True, you were subjected to injustice and forced to endure the detention under the Internal Security Act (ISA). True, there were many others who had suffered the same fate.

In fact, there are those who suffered considerably more. But true statesmen and patriots look beyond their own suffering and find strength to fight for the greater good of the community.

I do not need to name these individuals as you know who they are. You have your reason to go against Dr M, but you have to give him some credit.

He could have retired and enjoyed his old age, but he has taken great risks to his own life and that of his family to do what he’s doing now.

How many dare say the things he says to Prime Minister Najib Razak’s face? How many have the influence to draw the attention of so many to listen to what he says?

Anonymous_4031c: This useless rhetoric of wanting an explanation from Dr M doesn’t get us anywhere.

There is much work to be done, and we have to stand united if we are to move forward. If that tree is where the shade is to have a meeting, so be it. These are challenging times, and we take what we can and what is available.

At 92 years of age, we are blessed to have Mahathir around and for him to realise he needs to put right the wrongs that ail this country.

Simple Truth: Kua, when the whole country is hoping that Dr M can help to right the wrongs in this country, you keep hounding on him for an apology, and when he has done that, you continue pursuing the matter.

If former deputy Anwar's family can forgive him, why can't you?

ConstitutionIsSupreme: Accepting one's apology is not the same as forgiving that person. If you don't agree with Dr M being named as the Harapan interim PM, then say it loud and explain why, and name your alternative.

Who else can offer voters a better alternative to Najib and take the fight to him at GE14, if not Dr M?

Anonymous 2460391489930458: Enough of this apologising for this and that. We just want Dr M to do whatever he can to unseat Najib and Umno. That is the top priority for the nation.

Perhaps after Harapan has taken over Putrajaya, Kua can meet Dr M so that the former PM can apologise all he wants.

Clever Voter: It's obvious Kua hasn't let go of the past. As a person of his intellect, he has held on dearly to his principles.

However, Mahathir would not be the only one apologising. We've got to start with the voters who had given him a two-thirds majority time and again, but many would not complain about that.

Kua was in politics for a short period, and he should know better the harsh realities. Racing against time, the people have to be convinced of an alternative government.

Anonymous_af85ea73: Kua, please tell us what do we do at the coming GE - vote for BN again?
