A man who allegedly killed a robber after the latter broke into his house at Taman Puteri Wangsa, Johor Bahru on Jan 3 was freed earlier this week.

South Johor Bahru district police chief Shahurinain Jais said the man was released after the police received an NFA (no further action) instruction from the deputy public prosecutor's office.

Earlier, the case, which was investigated under Section 302 and 99 of the Penal Code, was referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers’ Serious Crimes Unit (Prosecution Division) chief, Saiful Edris Zainuddin.

"The man was released on Jan 8 and no prosecution was undertaken," he said in a statement here today.

In the incident at 2.45pm on Wednesday, the man, who was believed to have been a robber, was found dead due to severe injuries on the head and hand.

Prior to that, the man was said to have entered the house through the back toilet window of the house next to the kitchen before he broke down the door of the main room.

He then threatened the owner of the house with a screwdriver and ordered him to hand over valuable items, ransacked the second and third rooms and forced the victim to open the kitchen door to escape.

However, before he could flee, the victim reportedly grabbed a 22-cm vegetable knife and ordered the robber to return his belongings. But the robber refused and they fought.
