A 24-hour convenience store employee who planned a robbery on himself with two friends has been detained by the police.

Ipoh district police chief ACP Mohd Ali Tamby said the 23-year-old employee lodged a police report claiming that he was robbed of more than RM3,000 belonging to his employer while walking to a bank to deposit the money.

He said the man claimed he was robbed by two men on a motorcycle and tried to put up a fight, but failed, and the robbers fled with his sling bag containing the money, as well as his identity card, driving license, a handphone, and RM200.

“Following an investigation, it was found that the man had planned the robbery by asking his two friends, aged 24 and 22, to snatch the sling bag, Mohd Ali said in a statement today.

He said police arrested the three men in Ipoh yesterday.
