Police have successfully tracked down and arrested the man who was believed to have been captured in a viral video molesting a seven-year-old girl.

The man was picked at 3.10pm today and will be remanded tomorrow, according to The Star Online.

Berita Harian Online quoted Kuala Muda police chief ACP Saidi Abdul Hamid as saying that the suspect, who was known to the family of the victim, committed the act at a funfair in Taman Ria, Sungai Petani, between 11pm on Saturday and 1am on Sunday.

Saidi said the girl's mother lodged a police report after watching the video clip on Facebook.

She told police the suspect, a family friend, had come to the family house in Sungai Lalang prior to the incident and asked for their permission to take the girl out to buy food nearby.

"The girl was only sent home about 1am and when her mother confronted the suspect about the video clip, he quickly left after apologising.

"The victim was sent to the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for a medical check-up," Saidi was quoted as telling reporters.

The suspect is being sought to assist in investigations under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

In the video, the man was seen kissing and fondling the chest of the girl who was seated on his lap.

Yesterday, activist Syed Azmi Alhabshi took to Facebook to urge social media users to stop circulating the video in order to protect the child.

He also asked netizens to lodge a report on the matter.
