EC leaving suspicious Wangsa Maju voters claim to cops

The Election Commission is leaving it to the police to take the necessary action on an allegation of suspicious voter registration in the Wangsa Maju parliamentary constituency.

EC chairperson Mohd Hashim Abdullah said this was because the case involved criminal offence under the Penal Code and the National Registration Act 1959 (Act 78) as well as the regulations under it.

“If necessary, the EC is willing to give full cooperation to the police to conduct their investigation into the case,” he said in a statement here today.

He confirmed that the EC received a letter from the Wangsa Maju police headquarters on Jan 17, relating to a police report on new voters who provided suspicious personal information to the EC and National Registration Department.

The report was made by an individual who represented a political party in the Wangsa Maju parliamentary constituency, said Mohd Hashim.
