Embattled DAP politician Teh Yee Cheu has appealed to the state administration to reverse the decision to terminate five of his service center staff.

"I have appealed to the state government against the decision, some find it a burden as the Chinese New Year is around the corner.

"They (the staff) have done nothing wrong to deserve this, they have been carrying out their duties diligently, and some have worked in the constituency for seven years, they are well-known to the people who approached them for help," the Tanjung Bungah assemblyperson told a press conference yesterday. 

"They have been terminated without reason," he added.

According to him, the staff involved are aged between 23 and 50, who are paid RM2,500 each. 

He also has two political secretaries, whom he pays out of his "own pocket". One of them is a transgender, "who is not accepted by the state government," he said. 

Out of the five terminated staff, three are DAP members, one from PKR, while the fifth is a fresh graduate. 

On Wednesday, it was reported that members of his staff were served termination letters dated Jan 19, which gave them 30 days (Feb 18- the third day of Chinese New Year) notice, to vacate their posts. 

The sudden move has caused many of the programmes in his constituency to be canceled, Teh added. 

"I have to also make a decision whether to continue renting my service center or continue paying it for myself until the Parliament dissolves now that we no longer have any allocation," he added.

"My service center will continue as usual but with limited resources," he lamented. 

Last week, Teh was barred from receiving the state's annual RM200,000 allocation, which is currently being managed by Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari.

Teh urged the state government not to treat his staff unfairly as the state leaders only have issues with him. 

The maverick politician has on many occasions, ruffled feathers of his party comrades, as well as those in the state administration, by questioning its policies on the environment. 

He had also proposed a two-term limit for the chief minister's position. 

"I never see myself as a state opposition as I prefer unity and solidarity instead of division," he said. 

Nevertheless, he would leave it to the people to be the judge, he added.

"Let them (the people) compare what they (DAP) practices, and what they preach.

"Taking such actions against their rivals (BN) is normal but now they have acted against their own assemblyperson," he lamented.

Recently, Teh said he would quit DAP when Parliament dissolves but is still undecided on the next stage of his political career.

Meanwhile, Teh's former staff Adam Chew will continue to collect funds for him via his Facebook page fan club.

Chew has so far collected RM13,000 since the YeeCheu Fans club started its fundraising campaign last week.

"The fund will be used to assist Teh's election campaign in the coming polls.

"We need to buy some of the necessary items, such as sofa, stationery items, computer, and printer, so any donations in cash or kind are welcomed," he added.
