The Putera MIC movement contributed 2,000 free boxes of milk to Hindu devotees performing religious ceremonies including fulfilling their vows at Batu Caves, in conjunction with Thaipusam which will be celebrated on Jan 31.

The one-litre boxes of free milk will be presented by MIC central working committee member, who is also Deputy Education Minister P Kamalanathan, at SJK (T) Batu Caves, near Kuala Lumpur today.

At the event, Kamalanathan said the programme, the first such effort organised by Putera MIC, was a good initiative and should be continued in the future.

“Offering of milk is a Hindu religious ritual of worship. There are several types of ‘kavadis’ which are carried to take milk offerings to Lord Subramaniam.

“MIC Putera’s contribution of free milk to Hindus including school students is implemented so that it can be used in the course of performing their religious rites,” he told Bernama, today.

Also present were National Putera MIC chief Uvaraja Maniam and Selangor Putera MIC state chief Shashi Muniandy.

Meanwhile, Kamalanathan reminded that the religious ceremony be performed in accordance with culture and tradition in a calm and peaceful manner as had long been practised.

He also encouraged people to use public transport to reduce traffic congestion.
