An unemployed man was charged at the Ampang Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur today with 334 counts of incest with his niece since the girl was five years old in 2010.

The 46-year-old man wearing a dark blue T-shirt has casually replied “No,” when the interpreter read the charges to him one by one before Judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam.

According to the 334 charges, the accused was alleged to have sexual intercourse with his niece, a person that he is prohibited from marrying, since the victim was only five years old and she is 13 years old now.

The accused, who is married with no children, was charged with allegedly committing all of the offences at a flat unit in Ampang between January 2010 and January 2018.

He was charged under Section 376B of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of up to 30 years and whipping, upon conviction.

Earlier, the accused was expected to be charged with more than 500 counts of incest with his niece, however, due to time constraints, the remaining charges are to be read on Monday.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Raihanah Abdul Razak did not offer any bail due the accused’s close family relationship with the victim and the probability of witness tampering was high.

Counsel Muhammad Amin Abdullah who represented the accused however pleaded for the accused to be released on bail, citing a medical condition that required regular check-ups after being involved in a road accident in 2015.

Judge Mohamad Kamil denied bail and the court fixed March 13 for mention.

The accused was later taken to the Sungai Buloh Prison, Selangor. - Bernama
