Kedah Barisan Nasional (BN) has planned to maintain status quo in the allocation of state seats to contest in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Its chairman, Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said although there had been ‘voices’ from the grassroots urging the exchange of seat among the BN component parties to ensure victory in the GE14, the matter had not been discussed thus far.

“So far, the status quo remains and we have not discussed in a definitive manner [...] we have to consider the views from all BN component parties,” he told reporters after chairing the state BN meeting today.

Ahmad Bashah was commenting on rumours that the grassroots had been urging Umno to contest in the traditional seat of Gerakan in the Derga state constituency, which is being held by DAP.

Any change of state or parliamentary seat would only be deliberated by the party’s top leadership, he added. - Bernama
