Yoursay: 'Ku Nan, your ignorance of Christian faith is telling'

YOURSAY | 'Next time, Umno sec-gen Tengku Adnan, don't refer to churches.'

Ku Nan says church remarks misconstrued

Oldtimer: Whenever BN politicians, especially Umno members and ministers, make allegedly seditious statements that are reported by the media, they always claim they are “misunderstood” and their statements “misconstrued”.

This has happened ridiculously too often for the rakyat to believe them. They should be held responsible for what they say.

Headhunter: Next time, Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, don't refer to churches. Your ignorance of the Christian faith is very telling, so keep to things you know.

You thought you could win accolades from your selected audience by castigating other faiths. How does it feel to taste your foot in the mouth?

You should resign in shame. Asking you to apologise is like scratching the back of a hippo - it has no effect due to its thick skin.

MA: Tengku Adnan, during Sundays and other days, take a walk around the country and see the soup kitchens handled by churches that feed hundreds of the poor, marginalised Malaysians. Many of whom are Malays and Muslims migrants.

They come to these centres not only for food and medical care but also their day-to-day rations. And you say the church lies and spreads fake news!

Malaysianheart: If you don't want to be misconstrued, then think carefully before you speak. And before you speak, think carefully about your choice of words. Think of what misinterpretations it may cause before you let it leave your lips.

Why single out churches in the first place, if you mean all houses of worship? Come and see what we do and say in our churches before you spread suspicion, division and hatred.

Vijay47: Tengku Adnan, I am biting my tongue trying to ensure that I restrain myself in responding to your latest act of Umno cowardice.

Whether I succumb or not, let me state that you represent the worst in Malaysian politics and the only ones who can match you in such contemptible shameless conduct would be PM Najib Razak and that equally obnoxious DPM Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Without even bothering to respond to your beggarly typical attempt to exculpate yourself, I must reaffirm that you are nothing but a sewer rat that is allowed to scavenge only because it serves your master's interests.

Not that I expect any expurgatory response from you, but if you indeed admit that your words have been the cause for fury and offence, as you now profess, you would have the decency and self-respect to offer your unequivocal regret and unmitigated apology to the Christian community.

Slumdog: For a very senior Umno minister like Tengku Adnan, who ought to know better, he has once again, with impunity, spread fake news and sowed fear in the minds of Malays about Christians.

His reaction after the proverbial s**t hit the fan - that he was “taken out of context” - is getting tiring and unconvincing.

Anonymous 2465861491622056: The cabinet is full of ministers who allegedly lie through their teeth - same like their boss who says money is not missing from 1MDB.

Indeed, the inspector-general of police (IGP) should charge Ku Nan for sedition as he has aroused feelings of hatred against Christians.

Anonymous #44199885: In this country, it is not Christians who covertly convert a child and take the child from the mother. It is not Christians who visit a church partake of the holy communion and then spit it out.

It is not Christians who protest and threaten violence against another house of worship. It is not Christians who threaten the police and Malaysians with violence if the police obeyed the law. It is not Christians who refuse to obey a court order.

It is not Christians who will not wish other Malaysians on their celebration of religious festivals. It is not Christians who support scandalous theft of public funds and transactions to cheat the poor. It is not Christians who protest outside a religious house demanding the removal of religious insignia.

It is not Christians who commit suicide bombing. It is not Christians who slaughter brethren of similar faith. It is not Christians who are waging war in Syria and elsewhere. It is not Christians who are seeking to divide this country by race and religion.

Ku Nan: Use churches to disseminate God's will, not 'unhappiness'

Negarawan: "I urge my Christian friends, whatever you do in church, don't use the churches to speak something which is not true that you read on the internet or whatever comes to you," said Ku Nan.

This statement by Ku Nan is uncalled for and has deeply hurt the feelings of Christians, not only in Malaysia but everywhere.

If a similar statement were to be made by a non-Muslim leader against the contents of khutbah in mosques, there could have been riots and even burning of non-Muslim places of worship.

However, Christian leaders prefer to educate their followers on the facts and to respond peacefully and forgivingly towards perpetrators such as Ku Nan. This is why we don't see Christians going on a killing rampage as what we see happening in many Muslim countries.

However, church leaders and Christians in Malaysia, especially in Sabah and Sarawak, should take serious heed of the growing anti-Christian sentiment and persecution, and vote wisely in the coming GE. Do not vote for Islamic extremists.

David Dass: What is this attack on churches based on? A Christian service is essentially time spent worshipping God. There are prayers, readings from the holy scripture, homilies and the singing of hymns.

It is during sermons that Christians are reminded of their duty to God - to essentially observe the 10 commandments and to help our fellow man. Which part of our service offends you?

Yes, Christians are also told to exercise their vote carefully. To choose the government that best looks after all of our people. That is a sacred duty.

MA: The church is very clear on its moral teachings versus an unjust government or society. We respect our civil laws and constitution. We are law-abiding, tax-paying citizens.

But when powers-to-be are corrupt and when its citizens are subjected to unjust laws, then every righteous person has the right to stand up and fight for justice (be it in the church, surau or at home).

Just on another note, our church will be holding a signature campaign against the redelineation exercise by the Election Commission (EC), which is both unconstitutional and morally wrong.

Therefore, it is the duty of not only Christians but all Malaysians to fight against any malpractices that infringe on our rights.

Hplooi: Ku Nan, as Umno secretary-general, can you say the same to all these Umno-appointed ustaz during Friday prayers all over the country?
