S'gor Pakatan to finalise seat talks 'in two weeks'

The Selangor Pakatan Harapan (PH) is expected to finalise the allocation of seats to be contested by its component parties in 14th general election (GE14) within two weeks.

Its secretary, Zuraida Kamaruddin said they had so far finalised the allocation for 35 out of the 56 state seats.

“As of today, we have finalised 62.5 per cent of the seat allocation for the four component parties in Pakatan Harapan. This includes incumbent seats and seats given to Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) dan Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).

“We will do more intensive negotiation and we will try to finalise as much seat allocation as possible by end of this week. We expect to completely finalise the seat allocation within two weeks,” she told reporters after chairing the Pakatan Harapan seat allocation committee meeting today.

The meeting, which lasted about an hour, was also attended by Selangor Pakatan Harapan election director Dr Xavier Jayakumar; Selangor DAP deputy chairperson Gobind Singh Deo, Selangor Amanah chairperson Izham Hashim and Petaling Jaya Utara PPBM chief Shaid Rosli.

When asked whether the seats currently held by PKR, DAP and Amanah would be contested by their own candidates in the GE14, Zuraida said Selangor Harapan had decided in principle to maintain the status quo.

In the last general election, DAP won 14 of the state seats, followed by PKR (13), PAS (13), BN (12) and Amanah (two).

The seat allocation in Selangor, which was initially scheduled to be finalised on Jan 31, had became a conflict among Harapan component party leaders.

The situation worsened when Izham reportedly called Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali a “joker” and claimed that he  was unfit to hold the post of menteri besar and Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairperson.

Apart from Izham, DAP Central Executive Committee member Ronnie Liu had also openly “attacked” Azmin through a post on his Facebook page on Jan 3, saying that the menteri besar was unfit to hold the Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairperson’s post.

Following the “attacks”, Mohamed Azmin sent an official letter asking Amanah, DAP and PPBM to send four representatives each to discuss the seat allocation issue at the meeting today. - Bernama
