A man who says life seems incomplete without donating blood has set his own record, donating blood 108 times in 32 years.

Ibrahim Abd Ghani, 56, who is currently a member of the People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) said he started donating blood while still serving in the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM).

“I’m very proud of having been able to fulfill my responsibilities and helping those in need. So far, I have five blood donation books.

“I started donating in 1982 and will continue to do so as long as possible,” Ibrahim said when met by the media at the Terengganu Blood Drive in Primula Beach Hotel in Kuala Terengganu yesterday.

The programme was jointly organised by Primula Beach Hotel, Terengganu Civil Defence Force, Terengganu Press Club (Kawat) and McDonald's from 9am to 4pm.

Another blood donor, Khairul Azlan Mohamad, 47, a Kawat committee member, said he was called to donate blood because his ‘O’ blood type was useful to help many people.

“The ‘O’ blood type has its own advantages and is suitable for all types of blood, that's why I took the opportunity to also donate today,” Khairul said.

Terengganu Civil Defence Force director Lt-Col Che Adam A Rahman said the programme gather more than 100 donors and he hoped it would be held again soon.
