PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar has dismissed a report that she will be contesting the Pandan parliamentary seat in the coming 14th general election (GE14).

"(It is) purely speculation. As I stated, I will abide by leadership’s decision (on where to contest)," Nurul Izzah told Malaysiakini.

When asked if she would officially defend Lembah Pantai for a third term unless PKR's top leadership decides otherwise, she replied: "Yes."

Incumbent Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli, meanwhile, said he did not know of such a move for Nurul to contest his seat.

They were responding to a report by The Malaysian Insight (TMI) that Nurul Izzah would be contesting in Pandan in GE14.

It said speculation was rife that the 38-year-old would be moving out of Lembah Pantai due in part to a redelineation exercise which would see police officers stationed in Bukit Aman become voters in her constituency.

Nurul Izzah had retained the seat in 2013 with a reduced majority of 1,847 votes or 50.9 percent of the ballot.

It has been posited that she could replace her mother and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail at the family seat of Permatang Pauh while the latter moves to a seat in Selangor.

TMI citing a source, however, claimed the PKR leadership had decided that Nurul Izzah would be better suited for an urban seat such as Pandan.

Rafizi is not expected to contest in GE14 due to multiple court cases which may see him behind bars.

If Nurul Izzah does move out from Lembah Pantai, it is expected that PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil, who has been actively working the ground in the constituency, would replace her.

Meanwhile, Nurul Izzah said she has been busy campaigning up and down the country.

"It has been tiring but we can feel the impact. Momentum is building up quite nicely," she said.
