Prominent academic Wan Saiful Wan Jan today appeared at the Bersatu headquarters in Petaling Jaya one day after Malaysiakini reported he may be joining the Umno splinter party.
When met at the party headquarters in Petaling Jaya this evening, he neither denied nor confirmed whether he would be joining Bersatu.
He said the media would not get an answer from him today but he would be making a statement on his Facebook page.
"I am here visiting because we are planning an event," he said explaining his presence at the headquarters.
The former Ideas director, however, confirmed that leaders from several political parties were in talks with him.
"I have been talking to people from several parties," he replied when asked if Bersatu had approached him to join the party.
He also said he's still a life member of PAS, the party he joined in 1997.
Yesterday, Wan Saiful linked his departure from the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (Ideas) to a "risk" he would soon undertake.

Meanwhile, Bersatu deputy president Mukhriz Mohamad (above) declined to confirm or deny if the party had recruited Wan Saiful.
"We wait and see," he smiled.
"We have been approached by several prominent personalities in the country stating their interest to join us," he added, noting the party undertook similar efforts to locate talents.
“From time to time, I think you can expect us to make certain announcements that should shake up the political scene in the country,” he said.
