Jailed PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has been released from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital's (HKL) coronary care unit and is now back at the Cheras rehabilitation hospital.

Anwar was warded early this morning after a negative reaction to a steroid injection for his shoulder injury.

According to PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil, the injection was given last Saturday after Anwar complained of pain in his right shoulder for which he had undergone an operation last November.

The injection caused Anwar’s heartbeat to slow to an alarming rate and he was warded at 1 am today.

He has since made a recovery and will continue with his physiotherapy regime in Cheras to heal his shoulder

Anwar is seeing out his last few months in prison after being sentenced and convicted on his second sodomy charge which he claims was also politically motivated.

He was initially acquitted by the High Court in 2012 but the verdict was overturned on appeal. He was sent to prison after the Federal Court upheld the Court of Appeal’s decision in 2015.

He is set to be released on June 8.
