Wee: Guan Eng should be man enough to challenge me to debate

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Wee Ka Siong is daring Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to challenge him to a debate on the Penang undersea tunnel.

"If Lim is still unsatisfied with me, instead of cowardly calling me such names as 'despicable human being' via press statements, perhaps Lim can be man enough to challenge me to a public debate on the Penang tunnel," Wee said in a statement today.

He was responding to a statement by Lim on Saturday, in which the latter accused the MCA deputy president of trying to run down the Penang state government.

Malaysiakini has contacted Lim for comment on the challenge.

The two leaders have been locked in a prolonged battle of statements over the Penang tunnel, with Wee claiming corruption in the project, allegations which Lim denied.

On Feb 21, Wee had asked Lim why the tunnel's main contractor China Railway Construction Corporation was paid only five percent, or more than RM3 million, since the deal was signed in 2013, and has stopped work already.

Six days later, Wee asked why the Penang government had awarded a mammoth tunnel project costing RM6.3 billion to a "small" company.
