Two Pengerang Rapid officers remanded for café bribe

Two officers from the Pengerang Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (Rapid) complex, who were arrested by the MACC for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribe of RM25,000, have been remanded for four days from today to facilitate further investigation into the case.

The remand order was issued by magistrate Azureen Sahira Saufee Afandi this morning, following application from the MACC.

The suspects, one of whom is a security officer and the other a health, safety and environment division manager, were arrested at 3pm yesterday.

The duo, aged 44 and 49, were alleged to have accepted the bribe from a restaurant owner as an inducement for business opportunities to open a canteen, and to also approve a gas pipeline in one of the cafes in the Rapid project area.

The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
