Tycoon Robert Kuok today thanked Malaysians who spoke up for him following attempts to tarnish his reputation lately.

"Mr Kuok would like to record his gratitude to fellow Malaysians who have spoken up in his support and against attempts to besmirch his reputation and undermine his loyalty to the nation," read a statement from his office today.

The statement said a complaint was filed with the Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on three articles by Malaysia Today which alleged that he was funding DAP and The Malaysian Insight.

The office of Malaysia's richest man described this as "false" and "baseless" allegations.

"Mr Kuok is grateful for the quick and appropriate action taken by the complaints bureau and the enforcement and investigation division of the MCMC," read the statement.

Legal letters served on RPK

Meanwhile, Kuok's office said that it has served legal letters to Malaysia Today owner Raja Petra Kamarudin (photo) both in Malaysia and the United Kingdom.

It said that Raja Petra, who is based in Manchester, has not responded to those letters.

"Mr Kuok notes that Malaysia Today and Raja Petra Kamarudin have continued to make similar baseless statements in a number of related articles which have been published on the Malaysia Today website.

"As such, Mr Kuok firmly reserves his rights to take all necessary legal steps against Malaysia Today and the author, and anyone repeating further libellous statements," said Kuok's office.
