Google Malaysia today responded to attempts to lobby Putrajaya for the tech giant to be taxed more, stating that it already paid all taxes it owed in the country.
"We pay all the taxes we owe in Malaysia, and we work regularly with the government on a range of issues," it said.
Yesterday, Star Media Group managing director and CEO Wong Chun Wai made the pitch to tax Google and Facebook advertisements to Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during a luncheon with editors and publication permit holders.
Zahid said the matter would be considered by the cabinet.
Wong was quoted as saying in The Star Online that Vietnam imposed a tax on advertisements by Facebook and Google.
