Riot hints at election date close to May Day

Human Resources Minister Richard Riot Jaem hinted today that this year’s Workers’ Day national celebration may be held after the 14th general election.

“I cannot say for sure that the Workers’ Day celebration will be held on May 1… it may be held after ‘a major celebration’,” he said, apparently referring to GE14, and drawing applause and laughter from the audience at the ministry’s presentation of excellent service awards in Putrajaya.

The theme of the 2018 Workers’ Day – Skilful Workers Pioneers of National Excellence – was launched by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on Feb 24.

A total of 642 people received excellent service awards at the event, which was also attended by Deputy Human Resources Minister Ismail Abd Muttalib and the ministry secretary-general Mohd Ghazali Abas.

Also in his speech, Riot urged the employees of the ministry to improve their skills and competence in delivering services in line with the government aspiration to make 2018 a spectacular year of success for Malaysia.

He said all employees should train themselves to be able to multitask, have multi-skills and be multi-talented.
