The High Court in Kuala Lumpur today fixed April 5 for the hearing of Pakatan Harapan's challenge against the Registrar of Societies for not responding to their request to register the opposition coalition.

April 5 is also the last day for the present parliament session after which it is expected to be dissolved for the 14th general election which observers expect to be called by May.

The date was fixed by Justice Azizah Nawawi in chambers following case management this morning.

Harapan's lawyer Michelle Ng said the opposition coalition had filed a notice of urgency and the April 5 date was the earliest available.

Senior federal counsel Shamsul Bolhassan appeared for the ROS.

Harapan was granted leave by  Justice Azizah on March 1 for two matters to be decided. They are:

  • An order of mandamus to compel ROS to respond to Harapan's registration based on the application made on July 28 last year; and
     
  • Alternatively, for the ROS to register Harapan pursuant to the said application.

It was reported that Harapan filed the originating summons on Feb 22 where the coalition's chief secretary Saifuddin Abdullah, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution, Bersatu secretary-general Shaharuddin Md Salleh, and Amanah assistant secretary Abang Ahmad Kerdee Abang Masagus named ROS as respondent.

The summons was filed as the ROS had not replied to Harapan's application made on July 28 last year to register the coalition.
