Is a vote for you a vote for Anwar? Well, in a way, says Dr M

VGV: Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he "sympathises and feels sorry" for his actions against Anwar Ibrahim then.

Now it's time to reconcile and get rid of "Ali Baba and his 40 alleged thieves". Definitely, a vote for Mahathir is a vote for Anwar.

Let us bury all our differences as well as our hatchet. Our ultimate goal is to take out BN once and for all for the betterment of the country.

Hplooi: While you may not agree with Dr M or may not have come to terms with his past (mis)deeds, you can at least admire his gumption in confronting his past and his critics.

We cannot say this of the man who controls the destiny of over 30 million souls and whose only response is to let snivelling apologists speak on his behalf, with whinny nonsense and his facts-removed mantra of "nothing lost", "1MDB OK", "Jho Low who?", "Equa... Equa... what?", "The Economist prints fake news", "Tempo too is fake news", "The American FBI is trying to overthrow the beloved PM", and so on.

Sleepy: To me, there were four things to digest from the 92-year-old:

1) His willingness to be interviewed and answer tough questions, unlike the current PM,

2) Admitting his wrong decisions made with regards to his former deputy Anwar,

3) His intention never to be PM forever and,

4) That people should look to the future, and not the past.

Anonymous: Mahathir exhibits the character of a leader of calibre, that is, one who dares to face the press to answer any questions, unlike the gutless chicken who dares not go near journalists and only asks his bootlickers to answer for him.

RealityCheck: Those who continue to vilify Tun M and try to derail the opposition in its attempt to remove the totally corrupt regime now ruling this beleaguered nation must want to see another term under what the US Department of Justice (DOJ) described as the worst kleptocracy in history.

Who are you, an armchair commentator who was never victimised, to continue to condemn him when those who have personally suffered under his term have been able to see through their differences and forgiven him. The evil and disaster that we face must be the paramount consideration.

Anonymous: Tun is a remarkable person. At 92, when he should be spending time resting and with his family, he rather fight to correct certain mistakes he made during his time. Mistakes that are damaging the nation in many areas.

His achievements also stand out. He made the nation known to the world. He is the only one that today can unite the different races and politicians together. It is very brave of him, knowing the odds are stashed against him, including his age, health and certain political disadvantages.

Anonymous 728021502366367: A very important lesson in life is to be learnt from Mahathir’s era. There is no such thing as a free ride in life.

He created a generation of bumiputeras with the mentality of self-centredness who at the same time were incapable of competing in a global environment. Today, the country is paying the price for believing in Mahathir in the 80s.

Hopefully, if ever Pakatan Harapan comes to power, people would learn to move forward and accept new ways to do things.

Putrajaya to pump RM17b into S’gor water restructuring

Res Ipsa: Some value proposition to make Selangor great again this is. Does it not sound all too familiar? This time around, are they testing the waters in Selangor? What is the catch for the RM17 billion investment by Putrajaya?

It sounds just like another election promise, which would likely not be honoured once BN gets washed out again in GE14 in Selangor.

Vgeorgemy: As in the case of financing any deal, the financier must say what would be the cost of the acquisition if the recipients want the finances.

In our everyday life, we have a perfect example in the buying our houses through bank loans. The financier would do the valuation and based on the assessment, the bank would disburse the loan to purchase the homes.

Selangor is only asking the federal government to play its role of the financier in the Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (Splash) deal.

All other issues and grievances mentioned by the incompetent, bloated Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry would be solved as soon as the deal is confirmed and the company taken over by the Harapan administration.

What is the issue in disclosing the valuation report? Or does it mean that the federal government hasn’t got the funds to finance the deal, due to the massive liabilities incurred by 1MDB?

Equanimity: Putrajaya, you have been talking to Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali and agreed to facilitate the takeover three years ago, so why are you sabotaging the facilitation?

Why are you taking so long to do your part at the federal level, and making the folks suffer through this BN political game of torture?

We know all about the saboteurs and election manoeuvring, and you won't get a single vote on the water shortage issue that has been going on since 2008.

Anonymous 459: Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry secretary-general Zaini Ujang has no business making these statements on the water restructuring.

It looks like he has been spooked by Gamuda Bhd and offer themselves to the higher end of the spectrum's valuation on obsolete and under-maintained and overused water assets.

The MACC should investigate the matter. I also wouldn't put it past Gamuda to do all that they can to get the most out of this.

Anticonmen: This looks like another possible excuse to siphon money from inflated costs without calling for a competitive tender.

Well Thats Fantastic: This is money that would have never been spent if a certain party that once ruled Selangor hadn’t privatised the state's water industry in the first place.
