Bersih has demanded the government explain why the Sabah redelineation report has purportedly not been tabled in Parliament along with the Peninsular report.

Bersih manager Mandeep Singh pointed out the redelineation report for Peninsular Malaysia was given to MPs on Thursday, but not the report for Sabah.

The redelineation report is expected to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat next Wednesday.

“We want answers from the prime minister and the Election Commission (EC).

“Where is the Sabah report? Are they going to bring it in (to Parliament) suddenly on Wednesday, or are they not going to table it and are going to go with the existing boundaries?

“Or is there another plan?” asked Mandeep during a press conference at the Bersih headquarters in Petaling Jaya today.

“Let’s say the Sabah report is not tabled (on Wednesday), if the prime minister and the EC can wait, then why do you need to bulldoze the Peninsula’s redelineation in Parliament?”

If the existing boundaries in Sabah will be retained for the upcoming 14th general election (GE14), he questioned whether it is because of the “political situation” in the state.

The redelineation report, which was distributed to the MPs on Thursday, has been embargoed till its tabling next week.

On an unrelated matter, Bersih acting chairperson Shahrul Aman Mohd Saari responding to former Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah’s plan to contest in GE14 under PKR’s banner, said her political activities should not be seen as linked to the electoral reform movement.

“We wish her well, but whatever action she takes outside has no formal representation of Bersih.

“She is on her own. Bersih will remain impartial in our struggle to reform free and fair elections for the sake of the rakyat,” he said.
