A lawyer expects the number of Ijok settlers who want to sue Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali and the state government will reach 500 people.

Kamarudin Ahmad, who helped 113 settlers file a suit against Azmin and five others earlier this month, said he expects the number to grow after a briefing that will be held in Tanjong Karang soon.

"Following the lawsuit on March 13, more settlers are rising up and daring to step forward to claim their rights.

"Before this, they did not know there were negligence and fraud in the settlement, and were worried about losing their rights," Kamarudin was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.

He said currently around 250 settlers are interested in filing lawsuits.

The 113 unhappy Ijok settlers had filed the suit against Azmin and five other defendants, among others, to demand higher compensation to be paid based on current value of their land.

This is amid a settlement agreement reached with a private developer involving compensation of RM180,000 cash and a house now valued at least RM500,000 for the settlers.

A group of settlers supportive of the settlement who had turned up at the Selangor state legislative assembly on Monday, claimed 863 out of 981 settlers had signed the agreement.

BN had taken issue with the RM1.18 billion transaction, asking why the compensation was just a fraction of the land sale value, and why the matter was settled before undergoing the due legal process in the Federal Court.

The state-government in response, among others, had said the decision to settle out of court was reached as a win-win solution for all parties concerned.
