GE14 | After state assemblyperson Boo Cheng Hau revealed his wish to stay put in Skudai, DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang reminded all party leaders that there are no safe zones.

Speaking at the launch of Kulai Pakatan Harapan operations room, Lim said party leaders need to sacrifice for the greater good.

“We want to insist that there are no safe zones for DAP leaders... We need to fight against the tide and face the risk.

“What's the use of only being concerned with the personal and safe harbour? The people are more important. The nation must turn a new leaf on history. We must change the government via peaceful democracy,” the Gelang Patah MP insisted.

Lim admitted that the redelineation exercise is in favour of BN, but did not discount Harapan's chances of winning in the 14th general election.

He said BN would "steal" eight to 10 parliamentary seats based on voting patterns in the last polls.

“It is a completely different scenario in the upcoming election.

"We want Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to know that we don't vote as Chinese, Malay or Indian. We are united and vote as Malaysians.”

Lim reiterated that should Harapan increase its urban and semi-urban support by five percent, and with a 15-percent swing from rural BN supporters, BN and Najib will be defeated.

“We want to win all the seats to enter Putrajaya and Nusajaya.”

Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that Johor DAP could be on the cusp of internal conflict after disagreements arose on who should take on MCA vice-president Chua Tee Yong in the parliamentary seat of Labis.

Boo, a former Johor chief, declined to move to Labis, and insisted on defending Skudai, where he has been active for years.

He was elected the assemblyperson for the first time in 2008 with 12,854-vote majority. He increased this to 18,050 votes in GE13.

Labis is a mixed seat which has 44.96 percent Chinese, 37.98 percent Malay and 14.66 percent Indian voters, according to the latest electoral rolls.

It is considered a marginal seat, as its incumbent Chua only won by a slim 353-vote majority in the last polls.
