Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has proposed the setting up of a consulate office by the People's Republic of China in Johor.

The ruler, in a Facebook statement, said a China mission in Johor would help strengthen prevailing business, trade and investment links on top of providing value-added services to China nationals working or doing business in the state.

"Johor is also drawing tourists from mainland China in large numbers. Therefore, there is much justification for China to open a consulate office in Johor Bahru," said Sultan Ibrahim.

Sultan Ibrahim made the proposal during a courtesy call on him by Republic of China ambassador to Malaysia Bai Tian at the Royal Polo Club at Istana Pasir Pelangi in Johor today.

Sultan Ibrahim noted Johor's progressive and pro-business policies which had attracted many companies and individuals from China.

He added that they have not only invested in the property sector but also settled down with their families in Johor Bahru and Iskandar Puteri.

At present, China citizens who wish to deal with their government must travel to the Chinese embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
