The MACC found no element of corruption and abuse of power in Felda's Jalan Semarak land transfer deal, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Razali Ibrahim.

"On the contrary, the matter had more to do with the weakness in management, which falls under the purview of the police," he said in a parliamentary reply last week.

Razali was responding to Dr Ko Chung Sen (DAP-Kampar) who asked whether the MACC would summon and detain the directors of Felda and private developer Synergy Promenade Sdn Bhd, like they did for the undersea tunnel project in Penang.

He said the case was still under police investigation, while Felda would conduct a domestic inquiry via a committee set up last month.

In December last year, Malay daily Berita Harian reported that Felda risked losing ownership of its land in Jalan Semarak in the capital worth RM200 million due to an ownership transfer through an allegedly "dubious transaction" in 2015. 

The daily later cited an independent valuer as estimating that the land is now worth around RM1 billion. 

The Jalan Semarak land is currently being developed as a part of the Kuala Lumpur Vertical City (KLVC) project, which involves seven towers - including a "Felda tower," known as KLVC Tower1A, a 68-storey structure comprising 59 levels of office space and a helipad.

Felda chairperson Shahrir Samad said Felda was supposed to retain ownership of the land, but in 2014, the KLVC project's master developer was granted power of attorney and transferred ownership of the land to itself.

The police launched an investigation and recorded a statement from former Felda chairperson Isa Samad on Jan 5.
