S'pore Civil Defence Force rides on 'crispy rendang' for PSA

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has taken the opportunity to capitalise on the current hot spat over ‘crispy rendang’ to convey an important message to all residents in the country.

In its latest Facebook posting, SCDF said that last year, it attended to 402 fires caused by unattended cooking.

“Don’t leave your cooking unattended,” it said, accompanied with a photo of grey-smoky kitchen and a burning pan.

An arrow was pointed to the unattended cooking with a caption “le ‘crispy’ rendang.”

It ended the posting with a hashtag #CrispyRendang.

The ‘crispy’ posting was well received, with followers sharing and lauding SCDF’s effort to remind residents about cooking fires.

‘Crispy rendang’ trended globally when MasterChef UK contestant Zaleha Kadir Olpin was told by the judges that her chicken rendang should have been crispy.

It ignited a fire of criticism from the other side of the globe, uniting Malaysians, Indonesians, Singaporeans as well as Bruneians to slam the judges' ignorance.
